Without any further riddles, we will directly come to the topic of the cinquain poem. Have you ever heard about this topic? What is Cinquain Poem?

As the name suggests Cinquain, It is basically a 5-lines poem! Cinquain poem pronunciation – A cinquain is pronounced Sin-Kane. So it is easy to pronounce for kids.

Types Of Cinquain Poems

1. Original Conquain

On the basis of syllables, the poem is classified on the basis of the number of syllables in the poem. It goes as follows:

  • Line 1: 2 syllables.

  • Line 2: 4 syllables.

  • Line 3: 6 syllables.

  • Line 4: 8 syllables.

  • Line 5: 2 syllables.

     

2. Reverse Cinquain

This form of a cinquain is the reverse of the pattern we did before. It follows exactly the opposite of the sequence we did before. It goes like this:

  • Line 1: 2 syllables.

  • Line 2: 8 syllables.

  • Line 3: 6 syllables.

  • Line 4: 4 syllables.

  • Line 5: 2 syllables.

3. Mirror Cinquain Poem

This poem first has the original cinquain followed by the reverse cinquain. This consists of 10 lines and it goes like this:

Line 1: 2 syllables.
Line 2: 4 syllables.
Line 3: 6 syllables.
Line 4: 8 syllables.
Line 5: 2 syllables.

Line 6: 2 syllables.
Line 7: 8 syllables.
Line 8: 6 syllables.
Line 9: 4 syllables.
Line 10: 2 syllables.

4. Butterfly Cinquain

It consists of 9-line.In this poem, the last line of the first original cinquain is merged with the first line of the reverse one.

Line 1: 2 syllables.
Line 2: 4 syllables.
Line 3: 6 syllables.
Line 4: 8 syllables.
Line 5: 2 syllables.
Line 6: 8 syllables.
Line 7: 6 syllables.
Line 8: 4 syllables.
Line 9: 2 syllables.

5. Crown Cinquain

In this format, we combine all the five forms to make a large poem of 25 lines.

6. Garland Cinquain Poem

As the name suggests it consists of a series of 6 cinquains in which the last one is made of the lines from the first five.

Line 1: Line one from stanza one.
Line 2: Line two from stanza two.
Line 3: Line three from stanza three.
Line 4: Line four from stanza four.
Line 5: Line five from stanza five.

7. Didactic Cinquain

The popular form of the poem used in primary schools is the Didactic type. This form is one of the best and easy ones which my kids love to learn in a playful manner. This poem is not tactical and does not include syllables and stresses rather involves and is based on simple lines which we will discuss in detail in the coming blogs.
